Sonar Festival 2015 in Barcelona

Our long-time favorite Spanish festival Sonar will take place this year from June 18 to 20 in Barcelona.

Just Blaze, Pional, Koreless and Emmanuel Biard, Nick Hook, the experimental trio Nazoranai (Keiji Haino + Stephen O'Malley + Oren Ambarchi), and an endless number of the brightest representatives of the modern music scene.

Two audiovisual shows will be presented as part of the daytime program: "The Well," a collaboration between young producer Koreless and Emmanuel Biard; and the premiere of the show "Blueprint," the work of one of the brightest media artists Joanie Lamercier along with musician James Ginzburg (known from the project Emptyset).

New audiovisual dialogues

Sónar 2015 will present the result of the collaboration between the young talented producer Koreless and visual artist Emmanuel Biard (who, it should be noted, is also responsible for creating the show at Sónar by Day for Evian Christ). Their joint show The Well will showcase mesmerizing rhythms and a mind-blowing light show.

In the same spirit, French artist Joanie Lemercier, previously known as the creator of the AntiVJ label, will present for the first time her installation "Blueprint" in the format of an audiovisual performance at SonarComplex, specially created for the festival in collaboration with musician from Bristol James Ginzburg. "Blueprint" is an incredible video installation projected on two horizontal and one vertical screen, narrating about the cosmos and architecture.

Hip-hop and analog dances

Hyperactive Nick Hook has prepared an eclectic set of analog electronics for the soulful green field of SonarVillage; Chilean beatmaker DJ Raff will take you on a mesmerizing journey from hip-hop to dance music; and the currently hailed as the best hip-hop collective Southern Hospitality will perform on the SonarCar stage on Saturday night.

Pional, Pedro Vian, EVOL, Blastto – new names at the festival

Sónar continues to promote national artists and presents a fresh overview of local heroes in its lineup. The notable first performance of Pional, one of the most respected national artists both in the country and abroad. He will present new material from his show from the album that was released in the fall.

The Sónar by Day program will also feature performances by Skygaze (who opens the SonarVillage venue on Thursday), experimental Davic Nod and EVOL as part of the Editions Mego showcase; and sets from Pedro Vian, head of Modern Obscure Music label; the actively developing Innercut and Downites; as well as Collective+0 representing the Canary scene.

As part of Sónar by Night, you can enjoy: fat basses from Blastto; limitless wisdom from Angel Molina (warming up before Duran Duran concert); elegant tech house from Baldo; magical and romantic pop from Cascales; trap from Will Blake; and a video set from MK Ultra collective’s Render b2b Veski; dance floor geniuses Uroz and Carreno Is LB.

The Red Bull Music Academy will present its program on the SonarDôme stage.

Ten artists in the schedule of the SonarDôme stage during Sónar by Day are presented by the Red Bull Music Academy.

Two high-profile and noteworthy artists: American hip-hop DJ and producer Just Blaze, who has worked with Jay-Z, Eminem, Kanye West, Diddy, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and many others. And the absolutely stylistically opposite supergroup Nazoranai featuring three pillars of experimental music Keiji Haino (Japan), Stephen O'Malley (USA) from SUNNO))) and KTL fame, and Oren Ambarchi (Australia).

Continuing this list are no less deserving representatives from various styles and directions: Lost Twin (abstract beats from Seville), Teengirl Fantasy (analog house from New York), Christian Kroupa (deep techno from Slovenia), Olefonken (space disco from Norway), Adda Kaleh (dream pop from Romania), Sumorai (groove house from Sweden), Ah! Kosmos (dreamy electronics from Turkey), and Wife (synth and dark beats from the UK).
