Night of New Media in Nikola-Lenivets

On the night of June 22 to 23, 2013, in the shortest summer night, the second festival 'Night of New Media' will take place in Nikola-Lenivets. Many European nations have a tradition of celebrating the summer solstice with a festive night, culminating in welcoming the sunrise together. At the art park 'Nikola-Lenivets' on this shortest summer night, you will be able to see and hear the works of new media artists, performers, and musicians. Just like last year, the main venue of the festival will be the monumental installation 'Cosmic Mind' by Nikolay Polissky. The composition consists of 42 rockets 9 meters high, surrounding a giant wooden mechanical brain. Integrated covertly into the 'Cosmic Mind' will be the unique interactive installation 'Forty Two' by the project of Dmitry ::vtol:: Morozov, consisting of over 500 light fixtures and 24 audio channels. This multimedia installation will operate throughout the summer weekends. The festival night will feature performances by renowned German musicians: the legendary ATOM TM and the experimental duo Diamond Version, who will be in Nikola-Lenivets right after performing at a Depeche Mode concert. One of the duo members is Alva Noto, an artist and musician experimenting in various styles of electronic music (glitch, clicks'n'cuts, microwave) and creating audio images from various crackles and disturbances resembling barely audible background of technical and electronic noises. The program will start with German musician and DJ Jan Jelinek, working in genres like minimal techno, glitch, microhouse, ambient, IDM, and also performing under names Farben, Gramm, and The Exposures. His sets are appreciated for their deep sound and clever use of quotes from early jazz and rock. The afterhours set will be played by Abelle, a DJ resident and one of the ideologists of the night club Arma17. She enjoys performing long sets that serve as the perfect accompaniment to the first moments of the day. The second center of the festival will be the 'Lighthouse' - an 18-meter tower with an observation platform offering a breathtaking view of the surrounding hills and the Ugra River, whose high bank will turn into a spectator amphitheater. Around the 'Lighthouse,' there will unfold the large-scale multimedia performance 'In the Ray of Light' by Vita Adlerberg. The synthesis of modern choreography, experimental electronic music, and light scenography will alter the familiar reality and fill the surrounding landscape with new meaning.
